The 5th book in the BESTSELLING Peridale Cafe Cozy Mystery series! When Julia’s gran, Dot, wins an all-inclusive spa trip to Scotland, Julia finds it difficult to refuse the offer of a relaxing week away from her café. Along with her sister, Sue, they pack up her tiny vintage car and drive all the way from Peridale to Seirbigh Castle, ready to be pampered. The last thing Julia expected was to be caught up in another murder investigation, but when the cruel owner of the family-run spa, Henry McLaughlin, is shot dead, she can’t resist ditching the facemasks and massages in favour of cracking the case. Julia quickly befriends the young cook and talented-baker, Blair, and acquires a job in the kitchen so she can observe the strange family in the wake of the murder. Henry’s wife and children are acting suspicious, and with an incompetent young Detective Inspector on the case, Julia makes it her mission to discover the secrets held within the ancient walls before Seirbigh Castle claims another victim. Book 5 in the Peridale Cafe Cozy Mystery series! Can be read as a standalone but will be enjoyed more as part of the series. A light, cozy mystery read with a cat loving and cafe-owning amateur female sleuth, in a small village setting with quirky characters. Written in British English and 43,000 words long. No cliffhanger, swearing, gore or graphic scenes!
Shortbread and Sorrow Peridale Cafe Cozy Mystery Agatha Frost Books
I absolutely adore Agatha Frost and I've enjoyed every book so far in the Peridale Cafe series. That being said, Shortbread and Sorrow was my least favorite out of the five stories. Normally, Dot, Julia's gran, seems to be sort of an eccentric, harmless curmudgeon, but in this story she seems a bit more callous and ill tempered than usual, and I found it unpleasant and not "cozy" at all. Also, like another reviewer mentioned, leaving the village of Peridale behind, which seemed like an interesting twist at first, wasn't enjoyable as I got deeper into the story. I really found myself missing Barker and Jessie, and life in the village - just as Julia herself was! :) Please don't get me wrong - I didn't dislike Shortbread and Sorrow. It was a good story with interesting twists, and Julia *really* showing off her sleuthing skills (which made me feel so proud of her!), it just wasn't my favorite, and that's okay! I'm very much looking forward to reading Espresso and Evil on June 20th.Product details

Shortbread and Sorrow Peridale Cafe Cozy Mystery Agatha Frost Books Reviews
I was completely engrossed in this story!!
The characters made me laugh and cry, and I couldn't stop reading!
What a fantastic series.
I am going to read everything this gal writes!
Thank you, Miss Agatha.
Wonderful!! Simply wonderful! Agatha Frost has done it again. The stories just keep getting better and better. I just knew this time I had it figured out, but alas I was proven wrong. The story draws you in right away and takes you on a wonderful adventure. I hope this series goes on forever! Julia is a genius at riddling out the truth from the clues and observations she makes.
Review by J Matthews - August 14, 2018
This book is deserving of a 5-Star rating because it was an easy read and kept me on the edge of my seat. Author, Agatha Frost, knows how to write a story. I like the way that she weaves the story line from beginning to end. I have read books first through the fifth in the series, only to notice how well she has developed her characters. The characters have been memorable and I cannot wait to read the sixth in the series.
Personally, for me, I am glad to be reading these books in the order they have been written.
Well I didn't figure out the killer in this mystery but it was Excellent.
Love the blooming romance of Julia & Barker. Gran Dot is a rip and I like Jessie's attitude.
Keep rolling those eyes. I recommend every one of the series should be read and awaiting
to receive Espresso and Evil.
The author is a Fabulous Creative Writer and down to earth. I like that!
Baker Julia, her sister Sue, & their Gran head out to a castle in Scotland for this next adventure in the Peridale Cafe English cozy mystery series. The threesome barely arrive at their destination when a murder is committed. Julia, once again, finds herself driven to find the guilty party. She follows her instincts & intuition, ultimately finding the solution to several mysteries. Agatha Frost always delivers a great story that is just plain fun to read.
Another amazing chapter in the life of our favorite baker. Outside of her perfect little village, while on vacation in Scotland, Julia comes across another murder. In her usual astute manner, and within a short space of time, she gathers the information necessary to determine whodunit. Another well written, thoroughly detailed story that was fully engaging. LOVED LOVED LOVED it.
I will admit, falling in love with Peridale and its residents over the past four books, I was hesitant entering into this book knowing it was to take place outside of Peridale. And due to this skepticism, it took me an obnoxiously long time to finish it. I've two books ahead of me with the 8th installment being released very soon. I decided to pick this book back up this morn, resuming at just about 30% completed, and just finished 4hrs later. I should have know better than to doubt Ms. Agatha Frost, this book was simply a wonderful read. Filled with the same wonderful ingredients (pun intended) as the previous Peridale mysteries. I am delighted to know I have two more Perdidale mysteries to catch up on before the 8th is released at the end of the month as the wait between releases seem long and daunting. ;)
